Is there as way I can program "privacy" on all phones without having to assign a button? Why would anyone even want multiple people to pick up or interrupt calls?

Bill

If your system is setup in "hybrid/PBX" mode - someone would have to use a "barge in" button to join a call or be invited to join by the person using the confereincing option. As for why people would want multiple extensions to be able to join a call - some people like to be able to easily conference in on a call from a client/customer without having to use the formal conferencing process. You can easily do this in key mode - where all lines in use are visible on every extension - or by setting up shared access buttons in "hybrid/PBX" mode. To guarantee privacy, however, even in regular "hybrid/PBX" mode - you need a "privacy" button to prevent barge-ins.

In Hybrid, only the Operators have individual lines assigned to them, and are able to (usually) accidently barge into a conversation.

You don't really need a Privacy button assigned, although having one with a light will insure you know the provacy status.

When I install a system, it's just one of the things you do when plugging in the phone - check for audio on the speaker and handset, go into programming to confirm it's the correct extension number, double check the button programming while you're there, and finally, dial #31 on SA dial tone (or feature 31 if you want) to turn privacy on.
