I have a Magix system that had static/dropped calls/no dial tone on their PRI last month. The provider fixed some issues but there seemed to be hardware issues too, so we replaced the DS1 card. Now a month later they are having the same problems, but there are new errors in the Magix error log. Here is what I am seeing, please let me know what you think.

Slot oo - red on
Slot 01 (412TDL) - yellow on
Slot 02 (DS1) - yellow on

Slot 00 - Invalid Slot Port interrupt
Pool busy
Slot stream CNT exceeded

Slot 2 - PRI SVC State Inconsistent
DS1 misframe slip

Last month there weren't control unit errors like this, so I am concerned!! I have opened a ticket with the PRI provider. We rebooted the system and these errors have been since the reboot.

Have the provider confirm that they haven't changed the protocol to NI2 - That's what every provider wants to use these days, the Magix isn't compatible with it, and they tend to change things without warning.

TTT is correct about providers pushing the NI2 protocol. I've had reports from some of my customers that they can't even get their Nortel systems to work correctly with NI2 and the provider will then ask them to change to DMS-100. An increasing number of PRI's are now coming in as SIP and being converted onsite to PRI with a Cisco gateway. It's a mess.

Thank you both, but the provider says the protocol is DMS100 and not NI2. I had a note that it should be 5ESS (AT&T Custom) but I don't know if that's something different...the provider says it's been set to DMS100 for "quite a while." I asked them to find out exactly how long, since this is a recurring issue. They also say on their end the PRI has been error free over the past 24 hours. My tech onsite said there was an amber light on the provider's NIU. Any other ideas?

Update, I was able to do a print on the PRI and it is set to DMS100. Only one new error since yesterday - DS1 slip alarm.

External CSU, not in the Magix. I think it's the PRI provider's, would that make sense?

I just talked to the tech familiar with the site. He said there is no CSU. The system is 12 years old and has never had one.

Still an amber light on the NIU - 3rd light down. Picture attached, if it's any help. Tech plugged in a loop back plug (?) - and still an amber light.

Phone system shows another DS1 error late Friday. Site reported trouble on Saturday and rebooted the phone system.

If the tech plugged a loop back into the smart jack pictured and it didn't go green then the t1 card in that smart jack is probably faulty. It happens. A loop back plugged directly into the smart jack should yield all green lights.

Thanks to everyone who responded. After a lot of back and forth with the provider insisting that the yellow light on the smart jack means "good," we finally got someone onsite who fixed the problem. It was, of course, the PRI provider's issue.
