I have a customer with the inventory that follows. They are having an intermittent problem where connected calls are dropped and attempts to call out get a fast busy. While the trouble exists, the red LED is lit on the 100DCD card. I can recreate the trouble by momentarily unplugging the cable that runs from the smart jack to the 100DCD card. However, when I do this, the DS1 LED in the smart jack lights red. When the trouble comes on its own, it does not. This leads me to suspect that this is a provider issue. Am I wrong? The provider (Century Link) apparently was here and said the circuit is good.

What are the errors on the system? It could just be a signaling issue. Check to make sure the provider is NOT programmed as NI2. The Magix does not like this. Make sure it is Custom/Legacy 5ESS. Also, if they are trying to send caller id Name to the magix this will cause issues as well. I recently had that as an issue. The Magix can only handle caller id number, not name.

----------------------------------- ANNOTATION -----------------------------------

PRI protocol mismatch and service state inconsistent both point to the provider and the Magix not being programmed properly for signaling. I assume you are programmed 5ESS on the PRI side. If so, they need to be programmed custom 5ESS or legacy 5ESS or something similar (they all call it something a little different- some just 5ESS). I bet they are programmed NI2 which is the standard these days, but the Magix is anything but standard. What can happen with a mismatch is it will work for a while until enough errors build up and then it drops. resetting it will reset the errors and let it work for a while again until those errors build back up again. Have the provider check in their switch (NOT just the paperwork as paperwork can be wrong) to verify they are 5ESS.

Switch Type. So you are currently programmed as DMS-100. That is not a common switch type so I bet your provider is not programmed as DMS-100. I would have them and yourself switch to 5ESS personally.

The switch type is indeed a DMS-100. I just found out that they took a direct lightning strike to the building in May. I am recommending replacement of the entire PBX system. Thank you for your help.

The proper name for 5ess service in a PRI is 5ess custom. They also have NI1. In my area that is all. The DMS100 is certainly a common switch and minor competitor to Lucent 5ess.
