Hello is there a way I can put a password on my MLX20L which has been set up as my programing phone I dont want anyone to be able to get into programing from that phone unless they know the password thanks

Well, yes and no.

What you can do is set up the PROGRAMMING console NOT TO BE the "DEFAULT", that is, slot 1 port 1.

So, what you have to do is perhaps set any of the 1st 5 ports to be the PROGRAMMING CONSOLE, but during the normal course of operation of your system, only put a MLX-10 button set into that port.

That way, when you want to do SYSTEM PROGRAMMING Stuff, you can just replace the MLX-10 with your MLX-20L, and BINGO, you are good to go!

That will leave SLOT 1 Port 1 as your main OPERATOR extension, and will provide security against unauthorized programming.

Sounds like you're learning quite a bit this week, Carlos.

As to which leg of MerlinMan's advice you want to take will depend on whether the boss-man insists on keeping that MLX-20L at it's current location.

If he says, "Don't move that phone, son", that's OK. We can still neuter it and keep people from using it as a programming console. What you'd do then is simply setup another MLX-20L at your desk and strap the Merlin to make YOUR port the programming port (which must be the first or fifth port on an MLX board).

I'd prefer to see you use the free WinSPM software. You can use it to dial-in or (with an adapter) connect to the craft/console port on the processor module directly. You'll find a lot more flexibility in that solution than by relocating or adding another MLX-20L.

You may set any of the first 5 station ports to be the programming extension, they don't have to be operator positions, but MUST be MLX 20 type sets. This is done in system programming, not strapping. I would prefer Winspm, tho...this would require an analog port from the system at your desk, or the admn port extended, as Dagwoodsystems says. Bell Labs says if you connect via the admin port, the device (your laptop?) should be on the same electrical circuit. I have had problems with this, but it is very rare and usually works on any circuit.

i would like to know where i can download for free winspm

Search these threads.

This has been disclosed many times on this forum.

The answer is here, some where....

But believe me, you can get it free from Avaya, if you look closely at the posts here.
