I have a new Magix install with (1) 412 and to operator consoles 4424ltd phones with 4450 dss. Also (4) etr cards with lots of partner phones. All working well. Question can Lines appear on phone other then the consoles? As of now all other phones are using line pools button. Help, Thanks.

Unless you are a operator and you can only be if you're a 4400 series telephone in the 1st or 5th position, you'll only have pool buttons if the lines are in a pool. The only way you could have the lines on all the phones, is have the system in key mode, or don't assign the lines to a pool.

Only if you remove the lines from the pools and assign them as "private" lines to the sets. They are not really "private" in that the can go on more that one or ALL the sets. However, it you do this, and no longer have any lines in pools, you lose the ARS functionality.

If you set the system to KEY, rather than PBX evey one can have an apearance of the lines.

The partner was probably in KEY mode.

You can leave it in PBX and take all lines out of the pools. Then you can assign the lines to all phones, but there are drawbacks to that design.

Depending on how many lines you have you could just put one line in each pool then assign them to the phones. Make sure to build that in your ARS table. Only problem is your N11 Output table and dial O Output table since you can only have 1 pool assigned. This should only affect people who use your ars to dial out.

I appreciate the help. I am a little disappointed with this feature limitation on the magix (being a Nortel guy mostly). But i guess that is just the way it is. Thanks again.

Well, there is some limitations to a Magix. But when you really know it, you can do most things. What you want to do is no problem at all. You looking to do a set up like a key system. With magix you have just 2 ways to do it. Either a true Key mode, or put it PBX mode with the lines on all the phones. Which is good. This way you can do a key system or set it up like key and have some hybrid/pbx features if needed.

The only thing you did wrong was add the lines to a pool or a trunk group (in other PBX languages). Since you wanted a key set up, you shouldn't of wanted trunk groups or pools.

In telcom theory you have trunk groups for when there is no lines on a phone (Hybrid/PBX mode) and you use ARS, LCR, and dial 9 etc. etc. Your customer wants a key mode set up. So you just have to set it up that way, 1 of the 2 ways. You don't need pools.

Hi Killbox,

you seem to have a good understanding of the magix system. And I appreciate your response. Unfortunately my customer wants the best of both worlds which I can give with the (Nortel system). That is why I feel the Magix is limited. I realize all of lucent PBX type products are like that. This paticular customer has many six button phones. So there is no room for all the lines to appear on those phones. In a small scale of things the partner system they had had the best of both worlds but they outgrew it. And I guess that is why it seems limited in that aspect. Thank you and others for all you help. It has helped. SIncerely,

One last thought, which I have mentioned on other threads:

People are VERY DISAPOINTED when they "Upgrade" from a Partner to a Legend/Magix, 'cause the Partner phones just do not work the same way.

All of the vendors I work for just go ahead and change such upgrades to one with all MLX or TDL sets to prevent the backlash that the other type of upgrades cause.

I keep hearing that. But I installed over 50 Partner phones on this magix system and have had very little backlash. I studied it and found out the differences and made the customer a where of these. I unfortunately did not know about the limitation (my words) of the magix to have line appearances on any thing other then the operators consoles while in lines pool mode. But I do not see where the partner phones have caused these problems. Even if I had sold them 4406D tele phones I would still have the same issue. while I appreciate the premise. I am still not convienced why every one is so down on using partner phones on the magix system. To be honest if I was going to sell them all new phones and a new system I would have sold them a Nortel system (sorry). Any way Thanks again you people are great. And I am trying to do better. God Bless America.

You can also set it up to where not all lines are in pools.

Some lines could be assigned to some phones, while others are left in pools for outgoing service.

Also, in a lot of the ones I do, the attendant does not need but a few lines to answer all the incoming calls.

Could that design change help?

I understand your disappointment too. I work on NEC's and Altigen's as well. There's definetly limitations but there is work arounds. For instance, I've been in the same scenario where you have 6 button magix or 6 button partner phones on the magix. But it doesn't matter the phone system. When you get that large, you have to train you customer in, "You don't have 20 lines on phones". There's a limit you know? Like what would they do if a salesman came to there door and sold them a T1? They'd have to learn to put a call on hold and instead of pick up line 1 or 20, to press a pick up button and the ext. that put it on hold.

Good luck with your customer though. And I too haven't had any major trouble with the partner phones on the magix either.
