The only real advantage of a Key Mode system is that you give all the users a line button for each outside line. Unless you are going to have standard lines in addition to your PRI, and you want each line to appear on each phone, there is no need to be in Key Mode. If you are just going to have a PRI for in and outbound calls, you can't make lines of a PRI appear on any phone to begin with, so Key Mode does not do you any good. Avaya recommends you use key mode on systems with fewer than 50 phones, but really you use on systems with fewer than 10-15 phones.
Well the customer I am working on has an interesting setup. It is a Doctors office with 2 buildings. They have 4 doctors in each building. 2 on each side. Each of doctors have their own lines to that side of the building for their receptionists to answer. They have (about)24 lines spread between the different doctors now. They are also building 2 more buildings which we will be tying into the phone system. We are considering a T1 or PRI option for them to try to bring down cost. Because of how they handle calls between the different doctors we have left the system in key mode so that each side can see the lines for their doctors. This seems to be a unique setup.

Once you go to a PRI, the ability to see individual lines at each phone will be gone. Any call coming in on the PRI will have associated digits and ring to the extension as an intercom call. You will not be able to assign, say, lines 1-4 on extensions 100 & 101, and lines 5-8 on 102 and 103. Lines appearances cease to exist on a PRI setup.
you have to be in hybrid for a pri
in hybrid, you can still have potts line appearance, aslong as they are not in a pool.if using did,s you can set up shared system access btns, but not on operator sets
Thanks fonetek. I have never tried to setup up a PRI in anything but Hybrid, so I never ran across the issue, but it is always good to learn something new everyday. Hey Phoneguy, looks the the issue was rather mute to begin with. Sounds like a PRI might not be the solution for these guys. They could still go will a basic T-1 and probably save some money.
