I currently have a Magix system in Hybrid mode with 4 POTS lines and 1 PRI. However, I'm not sure what the best way is to program the system.

1. We want to make a button for each POTS line so when calls ring in or put on hold, a person can pick up the flashing line from any phone in the building.

2. When the system is in Hybrid mode, the call on hold can only be picked up by the phone that put it on hold and not any other phone. In Key mode, we never have this problem.

3. We still want to maintain the PRI for DID access to extensions so they go directly into voicemail. Hence, we cannot use key mode.

So put each POTs line on each phone through extension programming. That way each phone will have all 4 pots lines.

TravelingTom made a good point. First remove the 4 POTs lines from any pool they may be in. In Hybrid/PBX mode the default is to put all lines in pools. Hopefully your POTs and PRI lines are in separate pools - and you don't need your 4 POTs lines in a pool.

I've tried this but if we make an outgoing call using 9 as the access code, the button is tied to the phone initiating the call.

For example, I initiate a call from x123, put the call on hold and need Mary at x155 to pick up the holding call, the line appearance on hold on her phone does not blink or allow her to pick up. The only way she can pick up is if I park the call and have her pick up the parked call at my extension.

Any ideas?

Make sure Line Ringing is set to "immediate" for each line button on each phone. Ringing/Idle Line Preference should be "on" for each extension as well.

Will that specifically resolve the hold and pick up problem while the system is in Hybrid mode vs. Key mode?

Not necessarily. Hybrid mode is tricky with personal lines - and it somewhat depends on the vintage of the software in your processor. The newer software is a little more like a "key" system when dealing with personal lines - but not totally. I know that you can't transfer a call you pick up on a the same personal line at another extension. You can pick the call up and chat, and that's it - unless you park the call. It stays on the extension originally recieving it - regardless of software version.

if you dial a '9' to get an outside line, i would assume it is going to go out the PRI circuit. those lines are not tied to any phone in particular. if you wanted anyone to be able to pick up on a call, it would have to be made on one of those 4 POTS lines. if everyone has those 4 lines programmed on their set, you should be able to access one of those lines specifically and just dial the number you want to call, no 9 necessary. unless the POTS line provider required s you to dial one.

thanks, tim
