My Eudora finally died. I had to actually perform maintenance on the files. It turns out that my .toc file was corrupt. It's a simple matter to delete it and let the system reconstruct. When it did, it was sitting at 999x. I guess the magic number is 10,000. When it gets there, it will crash :)
