I am having the no magic number error problem with my 2611XM:

loadprog: bad file magic number: 0x0
boot: cannot load "flash:"

I have an IOS image in the dir flash:. I can issue the boot c2600-ipvoice-mz blah blah blah command and it loads the IOS fine. I can dump my config into the router fine and it works. I can write the config as well. When I reboot, it continues to go into ROMmon mode giving me the bad file magic number error. I did a sh ver to tell me what my confreg location was (0xf72c) and it still will not boot teh IOS image. Any ideas? Thanks in advance =)

I tried that. It continues to boot into ROMmon mode after displaying the magic number error. After doing some reading on cisco.com everything is pointing at the NVRAM chip being corrupted. Any one have this happen before?

I have had this with incompatible FLASH SIMMs - I had a 16MB FLASH SIMM from a 2600XM and it reported similar errors when it was installed in a Cat8510C.

Hello there,

Is this a new IOS install? You may try to erase nvram and save your configs again, if it fails I would try using a boot statement command pointing to the image, save it and reload. if you still getting errors using the boot statement command just paste it in here and I will try to help... cheers
