I work in a small office using 10 macs. Our server is a G3 running 8.6. Everyone else: 9.1 - 10.2.8. We recently installed a Linksys router. Ever since the switch everyone periodically get disconnected from the server without losing their internet connection. I think we're still using 8.6 on our server because it works with a version of Appleshare IP. We're using ethernet and Mac TCP/IP along with Appleshare software. As mentioned we experienced no trouble prior to the Linksys. Is the problem the Linksys router, or incompatibility between the Linksys router and our Mac OS 8.6 with Appleshare IP? I am not an expert but we've hired experts and they can't figure it out. Any thoughts? Do we even need to stay with 8.6? Can we upgrade to 9.1 or 9.2 and just use TCP/IP? Seems like that might help. Any help greatly appreciated as my hair is going gray over this one.

I have run into a variety of problems with Link-Sys routers on MAC networks. You might check the firmware version and see if Link-Sys has any updates, also double check the router configuration or get a different router and see if the problem still happens.

Hope this helps!

I will try updating the firmware. I did some more research and discovered that for macs running OS 9.1, which is the majority of our office, that updating to Apple Ethernet driver to 2.4.3 solves this issue with a lot of people. And, installing a third party ethernet card in the server is a possibility. I report back the outcome of these efforts.
