I have an excel workbook with links to other files and short 'labour saving' macros and VB code.
This workbook is used as a template for many jobs, populated and then saved. The frustrating thing is that sometimes, when a saved file is recalled, the macros/code have 'disappeared'. I operate on company's NT system, sometimes saving to server, sometimes to PC. I can't determine what sequence of events cause the failure. Any suggestions pls?

Hi,

1. If you have more than one workbook open when you record a macro, you have a choice of which workbook you want the code to be recorded in.

2. If the workbook containing the code is saved in different folders at different times, who knows where your code is. This is BAD CONFIGURATION CONTROL.

When you are developing or maintaining any kind of code, you ought to have ONE FOLDER that contains the versions of your program. After you have made your changes and have tested your changes, then you release the program in the next version/revision for distribution and use.

If your file is saved on a network, you might check to see if the network admin has an archived copy of your file aroud the date that this might have happened.

Hope this helps :) Skip,
