Macola Progression - customer search - change default

Is there any way of changing the default search in a list, for customers in this case, to 'contains' rather than 'equals'? Contains is by far the most used at our company and changing will improve call centre call rates.

I do not believe this is possible. If anyone knows of a way I would love to hear it.
