This is our first workstation with Windows XP Professional that I have tried to load Macola on. The installation of Pervasive SQL 2000i completes successfully, passing all tests, and the installation of Macola Progression 7.6.200GR completes successfully. After a reboot, I go to run Macola Progression and I get "Starting Progression", the SQL server screen flashes, and then I get the error of "No available transport protocol for the Pervasive Network Services Layer" and then after hitting OK, I get, "Error 3105 on file: M:\Macola70\screens\syspass.btr - Refer to Online P.SQL Help". What do I do now?

Are you running PWE or progression explorer?

It sounds like your network protocols are not installed. Can you confirm that TCP/IP is a service on the machine in question and that it is automatically started when the machine boots?

TCP/IP must be installed because I can logon to the network and do everything network related with our server. Should I uninstall TCP/IP and then reinstall it?

Check to see if your short cut is mapped to a UNC connection. This should be a mapped drive that correspondes to your Macola Drive Letter / Directory structure (e.g. m:\macapps\Macola\76)

My shortcut is m:\macapps\

Should it be m:\macapps\macola70\?

The macapps folder should be a share. You would normally map to the macapps folder (ie: \\servername\macapps). In that case, it would be m:\macola70

I cut this off another thread but I think it's very similar.

3106: The Pervasive Network Services Layer encountered a connection failure
The Pervasive Network Services Layer was able to establish a transport connection at the client side, but the connection attempt at the target side failed. Some possible causes are:

The MicroKernel is not running on the server.
The network is overloaded.
The connection path is invalid.
You have more than one mapped drive to the same server.
You are trying to access a Server engine on a Windows NT server, and the Server engine's Access4Accept Remote Requests setting is set to Off. You must turn this setting On using the Configuration utility in Pervasive Control Center. See Advanced Operations Guide for more information.
Check the Pervasive Event Log (PVSW.LOG) for more information if you receive this status code.

I have Windows 2000 client and Windows 98 clients that can run Macola Progression without any problems. Is there a possibility I need to update my pervasive client to run with Windows XP Professional SP1? I was on the phone for 2 hours with one of the techs from Exact Software, and his conclusion was to put in a 3COM network adapter..., but that didn't work..., still go the same error from the beginning. Any other ideas?

For P.SQL 2000, I would use sp3 (P.SQL 2000i) or I just saw on their website sp4 is out.

On the client, go to start, programs, pervasive, pervasive control center and drill down to communication protocols for both server and client. Verify that TCPIP are active for both. I would disable SPX on both as well.

If you need to make any changes to the settings on the server, you'll need to stop and start the Pervasive transactional and relational services at the server. If you only make changes on the client, reboot the client to take effect.
