Macola p.sql to ms.sql conversion problem

We are working on converting macola from pervasive 2000 to ms.sql and our conversions are failing. We ran several test conversion about 6 months ago and worked ok. Our conversion starts off ok but never finishes completely, it just dissapears off of the screen (like it was never started), with no error messages. Checking the log file does not give any indications of a problem.

We are running windows 2003 server, mssql 2000 sp3, converions are run on xp pro workstations. Exact says they never saw this happen before? Our local support people are going to uninstall sql and reinstall to see if it helps.

Any ideas?

Dumb question but did you do the following.

Run all the file validations again?
Can you see where it is at when it just dies?

When it dies, do you have network connectivity from that machine to other network resources including the ability to ping the servers by name?

Another quick check is to see what amount of free space exist on the target and source servers before you start.

I also found that creating the macola sql company more to the size that it should be instead of the default 9mg file will save time in that the SQL database does not have to be auto growing all the time.

What file was the last file worked on when the conversion failed? What does the log say and what does the screen say?

Conversion does not always stop on the same files. ARCTLFIL, APCTLFIL, IMINVTRX, the AR and AP work files.

When we run the file validation reports almost all of them come back with errors. Most of the errors look like they should be easy to fix.

Yes we can see where it stops. Looking at the log files it happens at the point were it is starting to add records to the data base. See bottom of page for a copy of the log file. This was when were trying to run 1 module at a time (per macola's suggestion).

When it dies we do have network connectivity. I have even tried setting up a test server/workstation where everything is instlled on the same machine and then we try running the conversion and we still fail.

Server has 270 gig capacity with 116 gigs available. Data directory is 27 gigs.

When it does fail the conversion windows disapears from the screen, the progression explorer window stays open and still works. It will let you run the conversion again but asks if you want to join the current conversion.

Did you run file validations in the Pervasive version of Macola and deal with all the errors?

Another option is to run the version from ONE machine, to eliminate network issues, then copy the data to another machine, your server.

The next file on the list is the RMA control file OERMACTL.BTR. Can you export/import that file manually?

Also shut off screen savers and having the workstation lock itself so you would have to log into it again after a certain amount of time.

Can you convert a smaller company in full, like Macola's demo data company demodata or data_00 which should only take about 10 minutes or so depending on the workstation.

Uninstalling and reinstalling SQL Server will do nothing to fix this problem so save yourself the time. Follow the instructions by the others in this forum and you will be heading down the right path.

We are working on fixing the file valadation problems. We have tried runing on a sperate machine that is disconnecd from the network and we get get up to the point where it is creating the indexes. Now I think we are running out of file space.
