I was about to bring up a new Windows server 2003 server and was going to move macola to this new server. I am currently on 7.6.200 I currently have problems with BoM module that keeps erroring out. I run SQL version. I basically delete all bom items I had so my question is this i guess: If i load a new macola up and port my info accross do you think the errors will follow with it? If I create a new BoM it should fix the problem right?

Other question is updates, only way to get them is to get back on macolas maint plan? or are there consultants that I can pay to get them? Thanks!

I'll answer your second question first. It's not the software that's the issue for updates but your license file. Let's say you try to upgrade to 7.6.300. The update checks a date on the license file against the latest date based on the upgrade. If your license if valid through that date, then the upgrade would run. I can't take a license file from 3 years ago and use it to upgrade to 7.6.300 because the upgrade would tell you to download a current maintenance to proceed.

For your first question, without knowing what issues you had with BOM's I would suspect that the problem would travel with you from one server to another.

This is not the place to list everything out to do to move from one server to another but change the server name in the macsql.cfg file in the macsql root and the pwe.tam file in the macsql\pwe folder. Also verify the drive path in the prosql7.cfg file also in the macsql root.

What are the error messages you are getting? Did you recently purchase the BOM module? If so there is a good chance that the reg file used to install Macola initially did not install the BOM programs.

If you have multiple data folders and they all misbehave, it's usually programs. If only one database has the problem, then it's probably data & will follow you around. Did you run the file validations in bmprdstr, imitmidx & iminvloc? Have you done any mismatch queries to make sure you don't have stray records that should be matched up with something that aren't? Have you run all your utilities like reset on orders, low level codes, etc?

Well just for grins I had a 2003 server laying around and load sql and macola on it. I transfered the dbs and yep you are correct the problem came over. odd thing is, even after all the errors it actually still does the pulling of parts from the inventory and makes the component, but there has to be problems with proceeding like this. Here is a ss of the error. Any ideas? Thanks a ton in advance for your help

By the way I try and run a file validation and the bottom bars looks like it is loading but then never loads? Any ideas, could be all I need to do is validate.

No, file validation does not fix anything, it just tells you what is wrong in the data.

What are the exact errors you are getting on the BOM? Please post them to this forum word-for-word.

Get every one out of POP, then go to system manager, processes, initialize distribution, inventory mgmnt files, and check the checkbox beside the IMREVWRK file on page 2.

This should reset the file as a new, empty file. Since this is a work file this is not a problem. Then go into POP again and see if you still get the error or if you get a different one.
