Some of my clients are starting to express serious interest in ES. What can you pioneers tell me about your experience installing, running, etc? Just looking for general comments & what pitfalls to beware of. Any thoughts about the changes to accounting? Do you like/dislike the Excel based model now that you've used it a while.

We were a beta site for awhile so......

- 750MB Footprint (all apps on the client machine not the server anymore)
- Memory Hog
- Can't resize screens? Acutally you can but you loose buttons off the screen.
- ATP is very very slow...even compared to 7.6
- Buggy...especially in the Account Modules

In a nutshell...ES is 7.6 with a new bloated VB front end. :)

I could go on and on...but just let me know if you want more info.

MacolaHelp,

I have one Macola ES client, and they are running thru POP, with no major issues.

The biggest thing you will find, IMHO, is anything involving CASH. Cash Receipts, AP checks, whatever. For example, until the latest release, you could only have one check per bank deposit. This has to do with (I am told) the fact that in Europe, they do not write checks. Basically Macola ES is Progression v8 in the distribution and Manufacturing modules, and Exact Globe 2000 in the accounting modules.

Chadt is right on in that this is a "fat client" application, however I do not think this is nessesarily a bad thing.

I have at least 2 other clients I am talking to about going to ES, and I have only one concern about doing so - the progression to ES data conversion. My ES client was a new sales so this was a non-issue.

If you would like to talk my ES client, please let me know and I can arrange it.

Dont let me get into talking about a conversion.....talk about a nightmare......the chart of accounts wizard doesn't even work.

I could go on and on.......but to be fair...most of the problems I have seem were because of the conversion process.....if its a fresh install or purchase I don't think it would be that bad.

But again if someone is purchasing a package such as macola why would you want macola...there are better solutions out there....that are much more stable then macola.....I think most ES sites will be upgrades.....just my2cents

And being a fat client is a bad thing....most places running macola are on older hardware....ES won't run very well on the most of the hardware people are running macola on....at least the macola users I deal with.

Second being a fat client and running macola through TS or Citrix is a bad thing...you would have to have one hell of a TS or Citrix box to hand more the 5 users.

The only cool thing to date about ES is that it uses windows authentication for logins so if your smart technically you could have your entire company running on 5 or 10 licenses. :)
