Macola 7.6.3 SQL 2000
We are having a SQL locking problem with the Company Setup Utility. I went in to change the name of a company and when I clicked save the program locked up (unresponding). No one was using that company. I looked in Maclocks table and there was nothing there, however there was a SPID that was locked with two process attached. I tried to kill the processes and they would not go away. We restarted the server and they still won't go away. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

The company setup utility is not where you go to change the company name, it is where you go to create a new database, period.

To change the company name, go to 2 places:

1) System Manager, Maintain, Company Setup and change the name.

2) Edit the Macsql.cfg in your macsql directory on your server to edit the display name.

In terms of being still locked up, what version are you running? I seem to hve a vague memory of a problem with this utility, but you run this only to create a NEW MACOLA DATABASE.

On Macola's Infomine, they tell you to change the company name in 2 places- 1 in Macola and 1 in Macola Setup Utility.
I'm just doing what they tell you to do. I am running Macola Ver 7.6.300 & SQL 2000. Thanks.

Do you havea document # on that infomine?

It may well work, but I was trained not to do it there and subsequenly I have never tried it.

The Infomine document number is Doc ID:003661.795.

That document 000.666.795 does indeed say to do that!

However I have confirmed that all you need to do is change the macsql.cfg file and the company setup file.

On the locking issue, how long are you waiting before doing an end task and are you getting any error messages at all?

In Enterprise Manager we have killed the process and waited and waited. Then when we restart the SQL server the process id that was locked comes back with a new process id number.
Goes from Process ID 52 to 53. Any ideas?

For the moment, since all you are trying to do is change the display name, use my method. I believe this document needs to be changed to not use the progression setup utility, but getting suppport to agree with me is not always easy :)

I will do a little research on the utility locking in and of itself as a separate issue. By the way this is happening to me too and I am on 7.6.300 and MS SQL Server 2000 sp3. So right now it looks like I cannot even add a new company.

FYI-Funny I added a new company and the utility worked fine for me. However it locked up when trying to edit or delete a company.
