I'm not going to upgrade. But when a computer needs to be replaced, I have to get a new one from Dell. Dell still offers XP on some models, but their really, really low end ones only come with Vista now.
I wouldn't hold out much hope, just because of the tightened security. That being said, Vista allows you to run applications in what amounts to an emulation mode of older operating systems (95, 98, 2000, XP, etc.). Perhaps that would be the way to go.
However, if the budget permits, bring on in house to test, test, and test before releasing it into wilds of normal user land. Given enough time to test and tweak, you may find a way of making it work.
Both versions Pervasive and Macola are not "supported" on Vista. That said, follow keain's advise if you must. Be aware though that if an equivelant of SP2 for XP is released that breaks functionality, you will be stuck.
I've seen unsupported software break many times due to service packs and security patches that broke functionality in evertything from the OS, database, mail server, web hosting, etc... It's a real bad idea and you are shooting marbles with your business.
I'm here coz I'm looking for solution, too. New Dell laptop with Vista Business. MS-SQL Progression Macola 7.6.400spA (latest), won't run on Vista... I hope Exact have a patch someone to solve this.
I doubt Exact is going to "PATCH" anything just to allow users to run on VISTA. They have some re-writing to do.
The core problem is that users are not looking at what they are running when they buy the new OS. You can still specify XP on Dell and other machines. We do it everyday.
Jumping on a new OS without testing your critical software......is .......welll.........fill in the blanks here.

Dell, however, will not put Vista on their low end Dimensions, which is what I imagine Randva uses. On the optiplexes, which are the business class machines, you can have XP loaded without a fight. Dell will also sell you an enterprise or volume license for XP, so you can get the machines with whatever you want and load XP.
Keain is exactly right. I use lots of Dell Dimensions. It has worked very well for me the past 6 years. And I did have to break down and buy an optiplex this time. But I did get one of the cheap ones!!
I will eventually get a vista machine and try it with old Macola. I will post results here when I do.
