Before I install an update how can I make sure all phantom users are out , and that there are no locked files?
Also do all updates get installed directly in the Macola 70 folder?
Thanks.
What are you updating to? And what are you updating from? Depending upon the update I may strongly suggest that you get your Macola reseller or regional office to do this. This is ESPECIALLY true if you are upgrading from 7.6.1x to 7.6.2x or 7.6.3x.
To get all the users out of Macola, Click on help, about progression, then users (Help, progression information, users if you are using PWE). This will give you a lists of active Macola users. If everyone says they are out and there are still users listed, delete all the files in the Macola70/users directory.
This does not mean that no one is accessing you Macola data however. Crystal Reports, F9 and MS Access are 3 examples of programs that routinely access Macola data, and they will not show up as active users in Macola.
In terms of locked files, are you using Pervasive or MS SQL?

It was suggested we download the patch called Progression 7.6.200.5.exe. to try to correct the printing issue we have with the Lexmark ML-1430 in Macola.
Sorry, forgot to respond to dgillz question regarding locked files. We are using Pervasive.
Please advise how to make sure there are no locked files and also where to install the patch (Macola 70?)
Thanks
ok if you are on 7.6.200 then the upgrade to 7.6.200.5 should be very easy. Just follow the instructions and I would agree with maccrystal to clear the users and reboot the server.

Quick tip: If you're on a workstation with administrative rights, simply log into PWE as the user SUPERVISOR. PWE clears 'dead' user files as you log in, but only when you log in as SUPERVISOR.
I have often been told that, but I do not think it is 100% true. I am not sure but this does not always work. Maybe it only works in a SQL environment? Or maybe thats something that just started in 76200?
I know yesterday in a P.sql 2000 environment this did not work.

Don - it doesn't work if you don't have the rights (administrative) to remove the temp files - as far as I know it works OK for both Pervasive and SQL.
