Hi
I have a Dual 2GHz G5 Macintosh, running on OS 10.4.3 (Tiger).
When doing routine maintenance, whilst booted via my 'G5 installer disk' and using the 'disk utility' software to repair my Macintosh HD (main hard drive). I got a message saying that a volume was unrepairable. Which volume and why I do not know. I tried verifying the disk. I get a message saying "Incorrect number of Extended Attributes" and a also "Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit"
If anybody has any information on how to rectify the problem I would be grateful.

Cheers

Unless your HD is partitioned, the volume it is referring to is the HD.

You may want to try another hard drive utility such as DiskWarrior.

You can also google for your error message for more immediate info.

One thing to keep in mind: Was the HD working ok before you did the maintenance? If so, it's likely that it's actually ok, or was before the maintenance.

Using OSX 10.3.9 on a G4

I would second the suggestion for Tech Tool Pro. It's much better than the built-in utilities.
