We have some machines that have an SMS 2003 client installed, but the database still lists them as not having a client installed. Other machines are ok. These machines have even executed (successfully) packages that were assigned to the All Systems Collection. We have looked at the logs on both the Site server as well as the clients and can only find some references in the dataloader log (site server) about errors processing the MIF from the machine. We even deleted the mifs in the bad mifs folder and attempted to force the client on them. We even gave SMS a day or two just to make sure. We can run remote tools on these machines. We can't figure it out.

We had the same problem. On the client, go to Control Panel, SMS, Actions and initiate "Discovery Data Collection Cycle". We noticed it duplicated the client in All Systems after doing this, one with "yes" and one with "no". We just deleted the one with "no". Hope this helps!
