Hi Everyone,

I believe there is a relationship between the Machine Identification number (uname -i) and the mac address of one of the cards - I'm assuming it must be the primary card

Any Ideas?

I checked on two of our hp's (v and n) and did not really see any "relationship" between the MAC and the MIN. What do you mean by relationship?

Hi crowe,

Thanks for replying, because the Machine identification number is somehow derived from the mac address of the primary lan card, then if you swap-out your lan card you need to get new licenses based upon the new machine Identification number as it will change also.

It's not really my problem, someone asked if I knew. I didn't so I thought that I'd ask the forum.

Thanks again
Queenie

Hi
Machine identification number is tracking number for HP it stores in to the ROM. you can't do anything with it it is illigal. HP keeps track of your license and other stuff.
It is not dependent on LAN card.
