I have a Mac-using client who created a Word template and has two problems.
1. He can't save the template as a document, only as a template,

and

2. When he sends that template as an e-mail attachment to a Windows user, that user can't open the attachment.

Any idea what's going on and how we can overcome it?

Thanks!

What version of Word on the Mac?

What operating system?

As for # 2, be sure that when the person saves on the Mac that the check box (in lower left corner of dialog box for Word 2004) is checked, where the file extension is added. Macs can read files without the extension, but Windows cannot.

Also, when emailing, be sure that the email program allows encoding for both Mac and Windows. When sent as attachments, the email program will add its own encoding; Mail.app and Entourage both allow this, but I have found a little more consistency using Entourage 2004.

Software: XL2002 on Win2K
Humanware: Older than dirt

In Word, once a template, always a template. Even if you rename the template in Explorer to a doc extention, Word will still see it as a template. The user needs to open a document from the template rather than open the template itself.

He should place the template in the template folder (see Tools, Options, File Locations for the correct location on his PC) and then use Create New Document and select the template.

What error message does the user he sends the document get when they try to open the attachment? This may be a security issue with the destination setup or the document (template) may be being corrupted. Need more info.
