Hey all, I have a Mac user (MacOS is Snow Leopard) and he can connect to the server hosting user files but he can't see or access any of the files. He has sharing turned off and I have File Services for Macintosh installed. Both machines have been power cycled. I can access the server on a PC under his network account and the file access is fine. Any ideas? I have mentioned that if he used a PC he'd already be connected but he won't go there.

Thanks,

Joe B

I have a PC at the office and MacBookPro (Snow Leopard) for my personal laptop and I connect to my Windows file servers all the time, and without File Services for Mac installed.

This is how I connect:
Command + K
type in smb://name or IP/share/
click connect

is this what he is doing?

My partner and I just got back from the Mac's office and figured that one out. We noticed that there was a leading afp:// and then the path. We put in the path like you listed and voila. Here's a star because you have the working sequence listed here. Thanks for the response.

I'm baaaaack. Hey intelwizrd the Mac's hard drive died and now we have a new HD in the computer. He's now trying to connect to the server and not having any luck. We're doing the steps like you have listed but it won't connect. He gets two windows. One shows the server share but everything in the window is greyed out. The other shows the server name and below that there's a moving status bar. No other progress. Any other ideas?

Thanks,

Joe B

Was this a new install or a restore? Is it saving the credentials in the keychain, might need to delete them and let it recreate the record? Also might want to check the firewall on the mac and see if it is blocking any ports.

You can try this link for more info:

haven't experienced this particular problem myself so I am not sure where to go first.

intelwizrd, the problem was an issue with the Traverse Folder permission. He was trying to connect to \Shares which wasn't working. After he tried to connect to \Shares\UserName everything started working.

Thanks for the help.
