Mac OS X won't disconnect from VPN

I set up a VPN connection to my Windows 2000 VPN server from a Mac OS X laptop. It connected fine, but the problem is that it will not disconnect for anything. I keep hitting the disconnect button and it won't do anything. I can't change the box where the server ip or user/pass is. If I close the "Internet Connect" window and reopen, it is still there. What am I missing?
