Hi all,

I have an OS9.2 Mac that is telling me that Disk First Aid cannot repair the hard disk.

The error I get after running Disk First Aids' Repair option is Unable to complete repairs. Try repairing the disk again. The Volume "MacDisk1" could not be mounted.

Does anyone know what I might be able to do to this Mac so as not to have to reload the entire OS from scratch?

Thank you :)

Try another drive utility besides Apple's Disk First Aid.

Symantec's Norton Utilities, Disk Warrior, TechTool, etc...

You could try what I did to make the hard drive mount on a G3 with 9.2.2.

Open the computer and disconnect then reconnect the wires to the hard drive. If you have a bad connection, the hard drive will not mount.

That didn't work for me, so I plugged a different connector on the same wire loom to the hard drive.

Problem solved. Everything works fine now.

I have to assume that there was a broken wire in the connector I was using since everything now works ok using the same wire loom. If that doesn't work you could try replacing the wire loom with a different one.

While mmerlinn's advice to check the cables is generally good, if the hard drive is recognized by Disk First Aid, a bad cable connection is not the problem. A drive utility could not detect the drive if the wire connection was faulty.

There may be issues with bad sectors on the drive but it is more likely that you simply need a better drive utility than Disk First Aid. I have seen Norton Utilities catch much more than Disk First Aid could.

I had a problem getting an external Lacie hard drive to mount in OS9. A tech pal of mine suggested restarting in OSX and run Disk First Aid from there. I never would have thought of that. I restarted in OS9 and the Lacie hard drive mounted fine.

Whew ... I'm a little nervous posting here.

O.K. I'm going back to the WZYWIG forums now!
