I have a user that has a new Mac laptop. We use a Windows 2003 network here. We also have some wireless routers. The user can connect to one of the routers and see only one computer on the network. That computer is an old domain controller that no longer has that assignment. He can't see the new domain controller, other servers or any of the 75 workstations we have. He can't even ping them. Only this one server. Any suggestions as to why or what to do?

Thanks in advance,

Shannan

Firewalls on the PCs?

The user might try going to Apple menu/System prefs/Internet & network/sharing.

Under Services make sure that Windows Sharing is enabled along with any other necessary services.

Under Firewall see if Windows File sharing is checked, along with any other necessary services. If this is not checked the port won't be opened and inbound info will be blocked by the firewall.

Yeah.. are you using AD? Also, make sure to disable the encryption of the SMB traffic on the DCs. That is a reg tweak. On Small Biz server, it needs to be done in both the global policy AND the local security policy or the global will be overwritten each night. I have the exact edits on my blog in the archives at:
