Okay here is what I am looking for:
a step by step list of adding a mac to a windows domain...
but specifically making a login at the beginning that allows network shares to mount.

This is what I do so far in Directory Access:
Bind computer in Active Directory.
Add domain to SMB/CIFS.
Add LDAP3 info.

In Address Book I choose synchronize with Exchange and enter the correct information.

Right now my mac users never truly log on to the network. They have to mount shares manually or through an alias on their desktop. It works fine but I know there is a better way.

The users should have the option on their login screen to select "Other User". After clicking on this option, they can enter their domain credentials which will map their home directory on their desktop.

I did figure out what was missing...originally for a few mac user we created an ou that just allowed them terminal server rights with no mapped home folder (back in 2003). Since I have admin rights I also don't have mapped drives. A few of the windows users made the switch and they map drives. Once I logged in with their name and password on my macbook I got what I was looking for. I created my own "white paper" on deploying a mac in a windows network with an exchange server.

Are you able to release that white paper to us? I'd like to see it.

Sure, since they don't like us putting email address on the forum go to cottagehill.org and click on contact us. You will find my email address next to webmaster. I will send you the word document I created.
