mac office 2011 VS XP office

It likely isn't compatible with PowerPoint 2000. Mac PowerPoint 2011 is probably compatible with PowerPoint 2007 and/or PowerPoint 2010. Try downloading the PowerPoint 2010 viewer from Microsoft's site and see if that works.
In the Windows version, 2007 and above isn't compatible with earlier versions unless saved as 98-2003 compatible and even then there can be some formatting that acts differently.
