MAC NIC problems

Well, seeing how Macs access the internet just fine, you're going to have to provide a lot more information. Things like
1. What OS version?
2. What hardware version?
3. What, exactly, is the problem?

Thirded, especially having watched my father-in-law set up and connected both a new Dell and an iMac from scratch.
The only issue I have with my Apple is how I can't cheaply replace my ethernet port (fried in a thunderstorm whilst I was out) on the motherboard when it cost £2.99 for a NIC PCI card for a regular PC. I wonder whether this is the issue for gmalabo1?
