I have an old 4400 with scanner, modem, zip and cdburner connected in a SCSI chain. Also a 740 epson printer wich do have usb but is now connected in the printerport on the 4400.
I also have a G3 powerbook. I have just ordered ADSL broadband connection and they say it is possible to network my computers so I can use both on the net at the same time. Some are mentioning a hub and some a router. I am confused.

I want:
• to connect both computers on the net at one time
• my computers to talk to each other
• Use my old SCSI equipment on my G3 powerbook
• Use my printer from both of the computers at one time
• I also bought a big wacomtablet some years ago, UltraPad serial tablet. Is there any solution to make this work on my G3? Any transformers ?

Can anybody give me some information about it?
Thanx B-)

OK to have both machines connected to the internet at the same time means, you will have to buy a router and a hub. Your Laptop and your mac would be pluged into the hug, along with the router. You would then see the internet through the router. Both the 4400 and the G3 have built in network ports.

As for the Tablet you should be able to connect it to the G3 did this with 3 wacom tablets at my old company. You can buy an adapter and download the software from Wacoms website. If you can't fix it in 20 call someone who can.

You can hook the 4400 to the G3 using a crossed cable and run the Vicom Internet Gateway or similar network address translator software on the G3 to share out the data.

I'd go with a combination router/switch. Many companies make them, Umax, Asante, MacSense, etc. You get a 4 port 10/100 switch built right into the router. Most routers are easily configured through a web interface.

To use a graphics tablet you'll need a USB to ADB adapter. Keyspan make one that works fine. We use it on a g3 laptop.

If you want to use the scsi stuff ON your g3 laptop, you'll need a scsi pci card. I'd just use it on the older machine and copy the files across the network. That way you can do other things on your laptop while the older machine is scanning.

Best of luck,
PT
