Hi

We have two Apple Mac's on our NT based network and I am struggeling to understand some of the problems that we have.

The Mac's are assigned DHCP IP addresses from our PDC and have full internet access through our gateway. (This means that TCP/IP is functioning on these machines)

However there are a few strange problems - each of the Mac's "see" different Network printers (I wan't them to be able to use any printer)

When I was testing Outlook 2001 neither MAC could find the Exchange server which is a BDC with the next logical IP address as the PDC (DHCP server)

FYI - the network hs only 1 router which is our gateway to our ISP and the Internet.

The network has 2 switches and 1 hub, I do not know how the switches are set-up nd this may have something to do with the above problems.

Can anyone give me some ideas as to how I can resolve these problems?

Thanks for any help,

Graham

Sounds like it could maybe be the network, everything else sounds like it is right. Trace the macs back to the ports they are plugged into on the switch's, if they are in the same one then it is something else, if they are in different ones then you can start there.

Let us know!! If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

Are you running advanced IP or easy? Go to TCPIP in control panel and edit usermode.

If you are running OS 8.6 run the appleshare 3.8.8 updater as that could be your printer trouble.

If you are running OS 9, update to 9.2.2.

Thanks for your helps guys, I am going to trace back the ports today to find out if it is a hub/switch problem,

We are using advanced IP setup and ethernet.

Just to update if anyone is interested, I have traced the problem back to a missing "hosts" file on the Macs, when I re-created this it resolved the problems.
