Has anyone been experiencing any problems with the latest version of Mac OS X.3.38 and fonts/font book. Also during startup has anyone else experienced a long delay (and the spinning pizza). Can only presume that this is due to a font issue.

You did not explain what fonntbook problems you're having. The one I'm having is that when I double click on a font in one of my folders, it does not automatically open in Fontbook.

My G4 1.25 SP Powermac is a lot slower to boot since the .08 update. The desktop builds very slowly.

Hey
My desktop is very slow in building since the upgrade as well. However the problem with the fontbook is that each time I open it up I get lots of duplicate fonts, I then use resolve duplicate to sort it out. This then disables those fonts but when you go to use a 3rd party application or even use the browser the required fonts are missing. It is hard to actually describe but thats the jist of it

Didn't there used to be a font repair program?

You might also want to repair disk permissions, then resolve duplicate fonts and see if that resolves the problem.

Go to FontBook Preferences and try checking disable just the collection.

If you use Classic applciations, You're probably best off storing all fonts in System Folder (that exact name) so they'll be available to all apps.

If you're all OSX, then try putting all in Hard Drive/Library/Fonts.

Please be aware that you might have fonts stored in User/Library/Fonts, in a fonts folder associted with an application, So it might be a little hard to locate them all.

Also note that there are some fonts in System/Library/Fonts. Some of these are necessary for the proper operation of osx. Note these and make sure they're not duplicated in another fonts folder.
