Howdy!

I am trying to connect a MAC Outlook 8.2 client to my Exchange 5.5 Server. When I am configuring the client it gets name recognition of both the Exchange server and the mailbox it is supposed to be connecting to. Seems fine! When I go to open Outlook it asks for the NT User account with ownership of the mailbox. I enter the relevant (correct) name, password and domain and hit enter. The MAC (a Powerbook G4) sits thinking for about 30 seconds then says it is unable to open the relevant mailbox and the wont even open in folder view. I am not a MAC user but they are quite simple and I'm pretty sure I've configured everything correctly! Is there something I've overlooked??

Can anybody help?

Thanks

Nick B

We have the same problems and there seems to be no simple resolution, if we reboot the Exchange box all the mac clients drop off, rebooting Exchange once again seems to get them all back on. We experience exactly what you describe, there seems to be no logic to it. I'm afraid I have no answers but if I come across something I'll let you know. Just to let you know that you're not alone.

Cheers

I have plenty of Mac clients on my Exchange box and don't get this. Are you using TCPIP? Do you have appleshare loaded on the exchange server? Have you tested just logging in through chooser to the server rather than logging into email?

Yes, I am using TCPIP. I have Services for Macintosh installed on the server and am able to connect to any shared volumes without any trouble. In fact the MAC uses both our servers seamlessly for everything other than email!

In that case check the outlook settings on the client and see whether the settings are right there.

Have you got the right TCPIP settings? You need a DNS entry that is valid. I think there was an issue with something to do with appleshare 8.2.4 and you need a more up to date version but it is too hazy to remember - what OS are you using?

If you modify the outlook settings name and choose check name, how long does it take to underline it?

Thanks for your advice Zelandakh. Checked all the TCPIP settings on the client and all were correct. Couldn't work it out so I changed from TCPIP to Appletalk, pointed it at the Mac zone I had created on our Exchange Server and it worked staight away. What a relief! Odd that it was getting name resolution straight away in TCPIP but just wasn't able to connect though?!?!

Now for my next challenge! Does anybody know anything about sharing mailbox calenders between Mac and PC???

Cheers

Nick B

You need to enable the free/busy schedule + connector on the Exchange server and have a fairly recent copy of Outlook. Then sort out the permissions as you would for PC to PC.

What do you want to do with the shared calendars?
