Hi,

I run a small wireless network at home using a linksys router.

Normally, I set the wirless security on with a password etc.

When my son comes home from Uni with his Macbook he cannot connect to the router while the security is on, even though he inputs the correct password - he gets a time out message. However he can connect when the security is off with no problem at all.

Any ideas guys?

I did not realise that it was necessary to use the $ prefix when logging in from the Mac. I will try that out and get back to you. thanks..

Tried prefixing the $ sign to the password when trying to connect from the Mac but when the $ is used some of the keys don't enter?

Tried prefixing the wep key in router with $ but same thing happened.. mmm ??

I've had that happen before too. I restarted the computer then I could put in the $ and WEP key. i.e. $3D42D66255. When you can't put in numbers it seems to be looking for the passphrase rather than the key itself. I always use the key.

Don't put a dollar sign in the key on the router. For some reason macs required a $ for a WEP key. Check Show Password and Remember Password.
