I believe this should be a simple question

I have dialup at home thats not very reliable and i have a wireless card in my xp box. my neighbors signal is very strong 5 bars. so he being a good neighbor granted my access via the passcode. but, I can't logon

is there a config issue with xp connecting to a mac wireless network. maybe a dns issue or do i need to load different proctols.

any advice well recieved

I would double-check your IP settings. If his router is running DHCP, make sure your IP is set to retrieve automatically (same with DNS). Also, if he is running WEP or WPA encryption, make sure your passcode is EXACTLY the same. They are case sensitive.

What does your neighbors Internet connection look like? Do they have a cable modem or DSL? Do they have a Wireless Access Point plugged into the cable modem or DSL? Is your neighbor using WEP, WPA or WPA2? 802.11a, 802.11b or 802.11g?

Your neighbor may want to check the security on their PC before opening this up to you. If they have the security on their PC set up wrong, you will be able to view their files and such. Does your neighbor have a firewall installed on their PC? You also should check your security and you should be sure to have a firewall and virus protection. You will both be part of the same network and any incorrect sharing will open up your systems to each other.
