mac address table, is it possible to extend the cache time?

I have a problem when trying to track down certain machines on the network. If a computer is on permanently it is not difficult to track it down. Some students only turn there pc on long enough to check mail, or browse the internet for a few minutes. By the time I find out they were causing problems, (viruses) etc... they have already disconnected from the network and there mac address no longer shows up in our switches. Is it possible to extend the time that the mac address stays registered in the switch, say 2 days?

you don't say what type switch but yes mac address table aging time is adjustable for most cisco switches .
