Hey all. Hope someone out there can be my obi-wan.
Ok, here's my situation. My DSL is connected to a Linksys(wired), and the Linksys is connected to a Netgear(wired and wireless). I have two desktops (both XP) wired to the Netgear with no problems. I have a laptop (XP) wirelessly connected to the Netgear also with no problem (when i say "no problem," i mean they can all connect to the net). My problem is I also have another desktop (98SE) wirelessly connected to the Netgear. checking the settings on my Netgear router (from one of the other 3 working comps), i can see that the 98 computer's MAC address is detected. from the 98's status bar, i see a status bar icon indicating that it's connected to the correct network. i've tried uninstalling/reinstalling the TCP/IP protocol, making sure the subnets matched, the workgroup names match, installing new drivers for the nic, but to no avail. winipcfg on the 98 gives the dreaded 169 address. i cant ping a thing if my life depended on it. it's literally hanging onto the network with its fingernails and needs some major help.. anyone? thanks in advance!
