Hi Listers,
I have a Linksys Wireless G router (WRT54G) on my desktop. I only want to connect one laptop that has a wireless g card builtin. I tried to enable MAC address filtering but I lost the connection. Tried it a couple different times but no luck. Is there something I need to configure on the laptop? Does the laptop have to be turned off when configuring the router? Any Advice appreciated.

I hope the router has the newest possible firmware, as the MAC filtering did not work reliably with the original firmware. Current firmware for the wrt54g is release 1.41.2 date 9/22/2003.

The router should be set to Mixed and not G-only mode. Any changes to the router will cause a reset and current client connections would be lost. Use a wired connection to make the changes. You should check the adapter to see if newer firmware or drivers are available for it.

When you enabled mac filtering, did you make sure that you selected only allow or enable the computer to connect? You need to verify that one...and make sure that the timezone is setup the right way.

You may want to upgrade the firmware but I'm pretty not sure if fw 1.41.2 will work with WRT54Gv1 (if that's what you have).

Cisco says it works with both V1 and V1.1 of the router.
