My Church has a M8X24-DS system. It has an Alpha 1000 UPS. When power is lost due to storms etc., we lose the programming in the system. A local vendor has to come out and reprogram the system. They say that the battery component of the system (Not UPS) is bad and to replace means a new 'system' board at $1,500.

Does this make sense? Or are we just being pushed into a new system?

There is a capacitor on the board that can be replaced you can not miss it it's about the size of a nickel. Or if you are running DR5 you need to change the capcitor in the on the software board. No need to replace the whole unit.
