I have a Norstar M7310 that is always on hands free. When you pick up the handset, you can only hear through the speaker, not the handset. Any ideas/suggestions? Thank you in advance for any assistance.

Either the handsfree button is stuck down or the hook switch is jsmmed down and not coming up when you lift the receiver. There could also be a speck of dust blocking the optical pick up on the hook switch.

If this is a newer Norstar phone then it will have a conductive rubber button that contacts the main circuit board inside the phone when the handset is lifted. Try cleaning off the rubber button and board contacts inside the phone.

Make sure the handset is not plugged into the headset outlet.

handset plugged into the headset jack will have opposite affect... no handsfree function

The only things that can cause this, as far as I know, are the things said above: Broken, dirty hookstitch, or broke/stuck hands free button.
