At another site, a Nortel moderator responded with the following info;


Confirmed with the M3905 Nortel Product Manager that the M3905 does NOT require an amplifier as long as the correct headset is used. The Plantronics and GE Netcom web sites can tell you what the right headsets are:

When we installed the proper headsets, the volume issue was correct.
