Hey folks,

Had a rather odd question with respect to m3904 softkeys and wanted to check if I'm perhaps doing something wrong...

Background: I follow my standard process for setting up new 3900 series phones when I receive them, plug the phone in to a TN programmed accordingly, then I go to LD 32 and do an FWVU to check the version, and then, should it be required, an FDLU to download the latest FW from my 11c (25.40) to the phone. In short, I know the phone in question has the most current firmware available from my system -- in fact another FDLU on the same returns NPR014 meaning no more FW upgrades required.

Now, to the actually get to the question :) On the 3904s I have I only have the Forward Softkey when the phone is idle. I've seen these same phones at other sites and I often see a redial softkey, speedctl etc. I checked my CLS and I have (what I think) is the appropriate CLS entries to facilitate these softkeys. Im curious as to what I'm missing here...

Here's a pic reference of the softkey config I'm aiming for: (and yes I'm aware I can redial by just double pressing a DN key :) )

Here is my CLS for the phone in question:

CLS UNR FBD WTA LPR PUA MTA FND HTA ADD HFA GRLD CRPD STSD

CPFA CPTA ABDD CFHD FICD NAIA BUZZ
AHA DDGA NAMA
DRDD EXR0
USRD ULAD RTDD RBDD RBHD PGND FLXD FTTU DNDY DNO3 MCBN

Also, here's a snippet of my Key config for the same TN as well (I have expansion module attached so I removed the key entries from that for brevity):

As far as I recall, the M3904 phones can support the first 11 keys as functions along with
KEY 16 MWK 7000 etc (Message Waiting)
KEY 23 SSU or SCC etc

The firmware can also be updated on the 11c to the latest issue that is on the 7.6 release via "pdt".

KEY 27 CLT (Callers)
KEY 28 RLT (Redial)

Also, if it helps, you can check the firmware by pressing Option, scroll up to Display Diagnostics, Select, scroll up again. The Flash version is the firmware.
You can then scroll through to check the pixels on the display if you want.

And yes, as Firebird Scrambler suggests, KEY 16 should probably be MWK since you have CLS MWA.

Thank you both FirebirdScrambler and StanleySteamer for the responses...

It does indeed appear that im missing
KEY 27 CLT
KEY 28 RLT

I went in an tried to add them and am getting SCH1370 which means "On the M3903, M3904 and M3905, keys 27-31 are reserved" which makes sense since they are indeed reserved for CLT and RLT.

Doing some further research im seeing that there is a similar issue someone experienced and in their case it was due to the 11c rls being too old (see:
In which case this makes me revisit LD 22 ISS...

MAIN CAB
VERSION 2111

PSWV VERSION: PSWV 54

So, it looks like I've been under the incorrect impression of my system version, looks like im actually on 25.30 (not 25.40) which would explain why I'm unable to add these keys.

Thank you for helping me understand why this wasn't working, appreciate all the help!

... now to find a way to upgrade to 25.40 :)

I have found some firmware files that might be needed if you wanted to upgrade your 3904 sets.

This is a guide I use when upgrading the sets on a SSC system via the PCMCIA card or by uploading the files via the serial port.

The following versions of up-issued firmware for the M3900 series of digital phones are now Generally Available:
• M3903 v8.8
• M3904 v9.0
• M3905 v9.0
This new firmware is applicable to the following CS software releases:
• X21 CS 1000 Release 3.0
• X21 CS 1000 Release 4.0
