M2008 Question

I have an interesting situation that I have not seen before and I hope someone out there can steer me in the right direction. The phones involved are just plain M2008's, not M2008HFD's.

I programmed two new M2008 telephones with DID lines. I used the same CFTN for both sets. In testing set number 1, I tested these with the handset in the cradle, I got dial tone and pressed Key 6 (Message). The set automatically connected to MerMail properly. But when I tested set number 2, as soon as I got dial tone, Key 6 had a solid arrow as if it was programmed as a Handsfree Mute Key. When I pressed Key 6, it started flashing, just as a Handsfree Mute Key would.

I swapped the two telephones to see if there was an issue with the telephone verses the TN. The first phone worked properly on the second TN. I swapped the phones back to their original spots. I then nulled out Key 6 to reprogram it. Even after reprogramming, the key acted like a Handsfree Mute Key. I then exchanged the M2008 with another M2008. It did the same thing as the other bad one.

I checked the bottom of the telephones and saw on the good one FA07. On the bad ones, I saw FB03. My questions are:

1. Why would the telephone ignore the programming from the switch?
2. Is this a firmware issue?
3. If it is a firmware issue, how do I get these FB03’s to operate like their FA07 counterparts?

We are on an option 11 running on release 21 version 1411. Thanks in advance.

Mike

HANDSFREE 2008 WAS NOT A SOFTWARE FEATURE, YOU NEED TO MOVE THE MWK KEY DOWN

OLD ROLMEN WORKING ON NORTELS

Maybe I wasn't clear. The key (Key 6) was programmed in the switch as MWK 7979. But on the physical phone itself, key 6 was acting like it was Handsfree Mute. It happened on both phones with FB03 markings on the bottom. But when I plugged in an M2008 with FA07 markings, it worked fine.

when the 2008 hf set first came out it was a set hardware feature. i don't think it was a software feature until rls 23 or 24. This could be a hardware enabled handsfree phone.

Also, make sure CLS of phone is HFD

Guys, you are missing the point. The programming is fine. It is the telephone itself that is the problem. Without me changing the programming, an M2008 with FA07 works fine. An M2008 with FB03 is making Key 6 (Which is programmed as MWK 7979) act like a Handsfree Mute Key. Why is FB03 overriding the programming of Key 6?

Mike

Disregard. I'll work around it by trying to re-program the key positions to see if I can get MWK to work on another key. Thanks anyways.

On the 2008 the key 6 is used for Handsfree usage by default. This is the same on normal 2616 with key 15.

In other words you can't use key 6 for anything but handsfree on that particular model.

Mc Gruff,

If memory serves me right, I had a similar issue years ago where one particular model worked but another of the same did not. This was due to the firm-ware on the set, keeping in mind that the release I used then was in the mid 10's. The way I solved this was by going to LD 11 and under CLS, inputing NDD (no digit display), pressing return all the way until the REQ prompt re-appeared. This cleared the key and I was able to assign any feature I needed there. Give it a shot but have the phone plugged in so the pbx can download the new data into it.
