How to install Linux on the win98 and winnt without interrupting the windows.
My partitions are below
c: FAT 2 GB--- win98 on this
d: NTFS 10 GB-- winnt on this
unallocated 6 GB -- and able to create Linux Ext2 partition
e: FAT32 4 GB -- extra space for win98
Unallocated 6 GB.- can create linux ext2 partition

Do i need to create swap partition before installing Linux
and it is possible to install linux with FAT32 in the middle as specified above. Please let me know , i can move the FAT32 to last ,if linux cannot recognize that.
Any help greatly appreciated Installation/Setup Gurus.

Thanks
Kumar

first of all, which flavour of linux r u interested in.
as far as Redhat 7.2 and Mandrake 8.2 u will not face any problems for ur situation.
and there was no need for pre-formatting to ext2.
to be on the safer side, boot int NT, defrag all the windows partition, delete the partitions which u dont want for windows any more, even if u r not going to utilize the whole for linux just leave it.
reboot using the linux installation cd and it will take care of the rest.
* If u r not familiar with linux installations pls select the auto partition option.
* If u want to learn by trial and error method pls go ahead with manual partition, (PREFERED).

But always jot down system settings before the installation and the steps that u followed during installation so that quick help will be available at such good web sites.

GO AHEAD, JUST DO IT!

If using Red Hat, boot of of the CD. I would recommend partitioning with Disk Druid during the OS installation. I would create a 100MB (or less) ext3 partition mounted on /boot, a swap partition equal to 2 times the amount of memory, and the rest of the free space formatted in ext3 and mounted on /. This is the simplest partitioning scheme for a simple workstation.
