Hello, we have several AIX servers connected to cx700 arrays. We always used 11gb Luns for all of our AIX environments. We have many different RAID groups but they all have 11gb Luns. A file system may be mounted across a group of several Luns. It's also likely that several file systems would be mounted across the same group of Luns.

In our new SQL server environment we have seperate RAID groups for data, logs, tempdb and backup. Problem is that each application/database may need a different LUN size depending on certain characteristics. In our SQL data RAID group we may have databases that have either 25gb, 50gb, 100gb, 200gb, 300gb Luns.

Maybe this is not a problem but it is just much different than our AIX environment where Lun size is very strict (11gb). Any thoughts as to whether all the differing SQL Luns sizes will create any kind of problems (management, performance etc.)

No, I have an oracle database running on Solaris 9, with different lun sizes, and have no problems.
