I have a hospital that wants to know if there is a way to dial an ext. or ACOD to activate a lullaby recording over their existing equipment. I don't even know what equipment I should be looking for. Anyone have any ideas?

Are you wondering if when you dial an extension that the lullaby will play over the phone or external speakers? If over the phone then you simply need to use a simple music source setup. You can buy a simple cd player with pre-outs or you can use a RAN type device with start signanling. Although the first one is much cheaper and easier (music type) the second will give you more control and options. As with the music device you will only have one lullaby for all who access. Also the recording will be repeated constantly and they may access it in the middle of the lullaby. With a RAN type device you will have control over starting position and could possibly use multiple different lullaby's if you wished. Check out I am sure there are other items out there bu these are the ones I am familiar with. Good Luck!

Interesting question. I'll share some issues I have run across:

1.) Dialogic 2616 Emulation card is a little unstable. If the port gets disconnected for any reason, the agents don;t log back in.

2.) Handling Calls from remote locations is a hassle

3.) The user interface is lacking and clumsey.

4.) The email read back voice is too "Steven Hawkins" for my tastes.

5.) Data entry is repetative, same info required in too many spots.

The entire UM solution (Speech Access, Web Mail, Mail Server) integrates poorly together in comparison to other solutions. Clearly Avaya does not understand or appreciate the finer points of PRI and Q.Sig integration. Each product by itself has merit, but don't look for a clean install.

One thing I can say, is their documentation is spot on the money. All Meridian prompts are clearly defined. If you have a single site, and are not looking for any integration over your voice network, than it probably do OK. If you are looking for an easy install, tight integration, and clean user interface from both the user side and administrativley, then the Call Pilot is the way to go.

My suggestion would be to leave the playback up to an external device such as a digital recorder that accepts a contact closure to start the playback process. The dry contact closure can be delivered via Wheelock relay that turns the ringing signal on an analog station port into a sustained closure. If you would like part numbers, email me and I would gladly send you a diagram showing the required parts and setup.... for free.
