I have a toshiba lapto on which i've just installed win98. i found drivers for all the hardware except internal modem, which under win me was identified as a Lucen WDM communication device.

When i first install windows, the modem is detected and appears in device manager with the yellow problem icon. when i try to install a driver, it fails with the message "setup cannot load the installer (mopdem.cpl) for the WDM_MODEM hardware being installed.

I have tried several drivers.

another forum suggested i had to manually install ports; i tried running "add new hardware" and now have three com ports (although only physically one), but still no joy

Hi there,

You might try the following site for some Lucent drivers:

And now to be a raincloud - I do hope you find a solution, but I've had a similar experience with a Lucent internal modem, and I definitively found NO solution. In my case, I had a Dell system preloaded with WinME and wanted to run Win2k; Win2k absolutely refused to load any driver for the internal Lucent modem. After enduring an hour hold time with Dell tech support, I got an answer - the modem was simply incompatible with Win2k. Maybe that's what you're running into... I bit the bullet and spent 40 bucks on a USRobotics modem, disabled the Lucent, and lived happily ever after.

Good luck,

funnily enough i've had a few replies on other forums saying "no chance" but with a bit of perserverance and a lot of luck i've managed to find a driver that works.

thanks
