When I press Intercom at extension 10 I immediately get a fast busy instead of being able to dial voice mail or another extension. All other extensions can use Intercom. How can I troubleshoot this beyond power cycling the phone system and disconnecting the phone station from the wall jack?

Go to extension 10 and hit feature 22, 10

That will unlock extension 10 if it is locked.

OK. Verified station is Unlocked. Double checked that 11, 12, 14, 15, and 16 all work. I've tried station 16 at 10. And still behaves the same; so I know it's in the "system" and not a problem with the phone stations or a button on them. Any other ideas. Thanks for helping.

Yes, I can call extension 10 from 18 or 12 or wherever. It rings, receptionist can pickup and talk. She can also use extension 10 for all functions (music on hold, toggle night ring, toggle cover, toggle DND, use outside lines etc.) Everything except Intercom to another station or intercomm 777 for voice mail.

Thats bizzare. Try a system reboot.
1. feature 00
2. left intercom
3. left intercom
4. #728

Make sure the system is idle because it will power off then back on.If it doesn't work at ext 10 do it at ext 11 as long as it has a display phone.

have you tried plugging it in directly to the acs/206 with a known good line cord ?

Connect another working ext at the system end to the house cabling, so a differnt ext port is now using the same path to the jack. Use the same line cord as with x10. If the issue duplicates, replace line cord, if still, replace jack, if still switch to different pairs on house cabling, if still, replace whip from acs system ext port to house cabling.
Trying to plug in at the system port direct with a line cord was mentioned above so I skipped that. If it does not work at the system plugged in direct, bad port.
Other programming issues were mentioned above, check those first.

Everyone. Thanks for all the help. Sorry to not have checked back in sooner to say this one was resolved. I basically went through all the steps above, as each person suggested, in order as the posts are listed; with one exception-- hondacrusher. In each case I came up empty; same bizarre behavior. This phone had worked in this installation for about 1 1/2 years prior to this. Extension 10 was wonky whether plugged in directly to the ACS; different phone, different patch, different wall jack or direct connect didn't matter. In the end I restored a backup of programming and the issue was resolved. As we are a small business I only lost some settings related to some auto attendants; best I could tell.

good work, troubleshooting is maybe most accurately described as figuring out what the problem is not. Whatever is left, is the issue. Sounds like you got it done, good to hear.
