I keep getting this error. i have done everything they said but i still cannot get updates.

That error is a real pisser to fix. I have run into that before. Let me guess. You have been told by some support guy from India that you should reinstall Liveupdate. You did that. Same problem. Maybe you uninstalled and reinstalled the program altogether. Same problem. I could never fix that problem. However, I did find a better antivirus program that is free to download and update and it works much better: AVG Antivirus. Give it a try and never buy from Norton again. I'm boycotting them for their poor customer service and their unstable program design. Here is the link for AVG:

BTW, you might want to make sure you backup the files on your computer. You may be in for a real problem if you try to fix this error. If you don't believe me, look up the error message on Google. It isn't worth it. The newer versions of Norton Antivirus are too unstable and they are resource hogs. I wish I had switched earlier. Just some friendly advice.

What version of Symantec AV and Liveupdate are you using?

Thank you! I have the same impression and will not be renewing with Symantec. I'll check out AVG per your suggestion.

What I have been doing is manually updating my LiveUpdate from their website. It is a pain but it appears to work.

The only setback with AVG is that you have to remember to click the update button. It will not update automatically. It's a nice program though. I have a PC that runs on 512 MB of RAM. Norton slowed it down to a crawl. I uninstalled it and replaced it with AVG. Now, it runs like a champ!

95% of the time, the problems with Symantec products is the registry entries from previous installs/uninstalls are not removed as Symantec does not know how to write code within it's products uninstalls to cleanup the registry. Symantec does offer a couple of utilities to clean up the registry, but I would also search the registry with something like Regcool (registry editor), on the words Symantec, Winfax, liveupdate and LU. With the search LU, only delete in reference to Symantec. Once the registry is throughly clean, you will not have an issue installing Symantec products, obviously if you have multiple Symantec products you need to be selective on the reg deletes.

Yeah. That's a major problem, technome. You see, that was how I ended up crashing my computer last year. It's ridiculous that a company that created a once reputable program has cut back so many skilled laborers that nobody is left who knows how to make the program:
1) Work right
2) Uninstall completely

I think that they need to have more people who can write code and understand the product. Besides, a computer virus is basically lines or pages of malicious code. How can you combat it if you don't understand it? Not to mention that you have to pay for their unskilled services when you could get better programs for free. It's a crying shame.

Symantec is already paying for it. I still run Symantec CE on all my clients, as I have run into just about every issue Symantec software creates, and can get around them, but at this point it will not take much for me to use another AV.

Veritas merged with Symantec, a perfect match. Same nonsense with Veritas. They also hire useless "techs". Last time I called them they expected me to allow a charge of $250.00 without helping me at all. After informing them I would do a "charge back", there was dead silence for 15 seconds, then I was bumped up a few tech support levels, problem solved.

I've had this problem, and here's how I fixed it:

(Try at your own risk)

1. Close LiveUpdate.
2. Delete S32luhl1.dll from :\Program Files\Symantec\LiveUpdate\ if it exists. (It did on mine.)
3. Delete the file Settings.LiveUpdate from C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Symantec\LiveUpdate\
4. Restart LiveUpdate, reconfigure it, and try updating.

You have to remove the 'S32luhl1.dll' file first or it won't work.
